Announcements from Fall 2013 Orientation

by , filed under News

For those who could not make it to the Orientation on Saturday, September 7, below is a list of announcements which were made.

Academic Announcements

  • Welcome back student body, and Faculty, of 2013! We have been working hard to prepare a great year of study at FTS, and we have a number of new faculty and new students, so please be assertive in introducing yourselves to one another and working together in love to glorify God this year through our study of the scripture and theology.
  • We encourage you to see – AND USE — the Website revision and Web site contents, also see our FTS Facebook and Twitter. We invite you to weigh in and make a contribution there! You can register and even pay online!
  • See the revised Academic Catalog and Student Handbook, and all other materials online.
  • Course assignment-syllabi for every course are online at least a month in before classes begin. It is the student’s responsibility to download and print at home and get the materials in advance of the first day of class.
  • Each semester we will be doing an academic seminar on a topic of interest to the entire Christian community that is scheduled into the semester assignment-syllabi for every course. This fall we will be hosting Answers in Genesis for a Creation/ Evolution seminar in conjunction with Helping Up Mission in Baltimore. All students are required to attend this, and attendance will be taken. Our Spring, 2014 seminar will be here at FTS and led by the Associates for Biblical Research on the subject of Archaeology and the Bible. This will be a complement to the Fall course, “Historical and Geographical Studies of the Bible” taught by Rev. Gary Byers, as well as a great complement to the FTS Tour of Israel in January. (We already have the schedule for the Spring Seminar and that will be published as soon as the flier is completed. Please see the bulletin inserts online for the Seminars, or get some from the Dean, to request your church include in their church bulletin soon!)
  • The other important event coming up is our second FTS tour of Israel in January, 2014. This is a trip of a lifetime, and the investment has eternal rewards of learning and memories. See the bulletin inserts for this. We have a master double-sided on two letter size pages that can be cut in half to fit into most bulletins. If you would like a master hard-copy to print at your church, see the Dean.
  • Classrooms and locations are on the map on the board at the front door.
  • Attendance is kept by the professor in every class and rosters are submitted daily to the Business Office and Registrar: policies on absences and tardiness, and everything else, like the dress-code at FTS, are in the Student Handbook or Catalog.

Business Announcements

  • It is advisable if you have a need with any person or office at FTS to make an appointment in advance.
  • It is also vital that you keep your email address up-to-date with the Business Office, in the event that you change it. If you do not now get the seminary eblasts, then you are not on our email list.
  • Student ID cards will be available in the IT Office (first Saturday of every month).
  • If you are here to take classes this semester, but are not registered or have not paid your tuition, you must do both before attending class. This can also be done entirely online now.
  • All further questions must be directed to the proper office or person. If you are in doubt, consider consulting the organizational chart on the bulletin board outside the Business Office, but most importantly read the Student Handbook that is online (that is your responsibility).
